National Celiac Awareness Day is on September 13th and there is no better way to celebrate than with a gluten free pizza at Mama Palma’s! Located at 2229 Spruce Street, Mama Palma’s has been a staple in the Filter Square neighborhood for over 21 years. Owners and siblings, Renato and Brunella, create traditional Italian style brick oven pizzas, made-to-order in their European imported wood-fired brick oven with the freshest ingredients and prepare almost everything from scratch- even their mozzarella cheese!

Mama Palma’s is BYOB and proudly provides guests the option of Ancient Grain Pizza Crust which is a product of Smart Flour Foods. The crust is gluten, wheat, casein, dairy, soy, and egg free but full of flavor. Renato and Brunella tried countless gluten free crusts before discovering the Ancient Grain Pizza Crust, which tastes just like regular pizza crust.. In addition to their gluten free options, Mama Palma’s serves whole-wheat pizza, low-fat pizza, soy cheese, and can accommodate most dietary restrictions.

We started our night with a Fresh Grilled Vegetable Platter and Mozzarella Capri salad. The vegetable platter consisted of perfectly tender yet crunchy asparagus, kalamata olives,  grilled eggplant, green onion, roasted peppers, baby zucchini, plum tomatoes, red onion and whole mushrooms all marinated and grilled cooked in the wood fired brick oven. The Mozzarella Capri salad features Mama Palma’s homemade fresh mozzarella slices and grilled eggplant, accompanied by kalamata olives, pimento red peppers, basil, arugula, and homemade balsamic vinaigrette.

The menu also features their famous Warm Polenta Bread Plate, Foccacia Bread Plate and Bruschetta Bread plate, all of which can be prepared gluten free. The signature polenta bread plate has on it roasted corn, fresh rosemary, roasted sweet peppers, on homemade polenta spread, topped with Parmesan cheese, drizzled with our own garlic and herb sauce. The bruschetta features fresh chopped tomato, garlic, onion and basil, marinated in extra virgin olive oil, sprinkled with black pepper, served on baked focaccia bread.


Guests are also highly encouraged to create their won custom pizza with a variety of Traditional Toppings available like Pepperoni, Sausage, Salami, Ham, Bacon, Anchovy, Mushroom, Black Olive, Roasted Pepper, Onion, Capers, Broccoli, Spinach & Garlic, Zucchini, White Wine & Lemon, and Roasted Garlic. Mama Palma’s also features some unique Gourmet Toppings like Artichoke Harts, Caramelized Onions, Asparagus Tips, Goat Cheese, Pineapple, Red Pimento Pepper, Eggplant, Kalamata Olives, Chicken, Prosciutto, Veal Sausage,  Buffalo Mozzarella, and Shrimp

Mama Palma’s is open for dinner 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm Tuesday – Thursday, and Sundays. Friday and Saturday they’re open until 11:00 pm. Reservations are available. Plus Mama Palma’s features a “Pizza Happy Hour” with 25% off all pizzas and select beers from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for dine in orders.
