Whether its good food, live music, or lots of bourbon and whiskey. The Twisted Tail in Headhouse Square has got you covered. We stopped by to check out their brunch menu and you’re definitely going to appreciate the small plate styled menu and the fact that you can easily grab a last minute reservation in a pinch. The menu of American fare is crafted by Restaurateur George Reilly and Chef Leo Forneas. The contemporary cuisine is made with a hint of Southern accent and perfect for sharing and enjoying.

The Twisted Tail is a stylish Southern-inspired contemporary American restaurant, bar and live music venue in the heart of Philadelphia’s Headhouse Square district —between bustling South Street district and historic and elegant Society Hill neighborhoods. The Twisted Tail features expertly sourced craft beer and delicious homespun craft cocktails in addition to bourbon and whiskey.

We started off with a 1/2 priced bottle of sparkling Blanc De Blanc wine and some fresh squeezed Orange Juice to make out own mimosas. We tried to keep it light to start with the  Fig Salad topped with fresh figs and blue cheese over Bibb Lettuce, with white balsamic dressing. This salad was a great way to wake up our taste buds and really build our appetite for the rest of the meal. We were definitely blown away by the Avocado Toast (especially since this trendy menu item seems to be offered just about everywhere) and the Beer-Battered Cheese Curds. The crusty bread for the toast was absolutely perfect for holding all the goodness on top. We selected bacon on top while health-conscious diners can also opt for shaved vegetables. The perfect sunnyside up egg was everything needed to make this simple dish excellent. DO NOT stop by this restaurant without trying their cheese curds- roughly the size of golf balls these cheesy goodness have a light batter and come with homemade Thousand Island dressing and spicy Tomato Jam.

We really love sampling from a menu that offers a variety of smaller plates and larger entrees so that we are able to mix and match to really create a custom meal. Next the Biscuits ‘n’ Gravy with sausage gravy and sunnyside eggs were calling out to us on this cold and windy Sunday morning. We also couldn’t resist trying a classic like The Twisted Burger topped with perfectly crisped bacon, chunks of blue cheese and bourbon BBQ sauce.

Last but not least was the Crawfish Mac & Cheese and Chicken & Waffle. Both of these signature menu items being offered at Twisted Tail every since they opened. Its not hard to see why these dishes are so popular- the Fried Chicken being offered on the lunch and dinner menu during the week. Your cast iron skillet of mac is filled with creamy cavatappi pasta (little corkscrews) bathing in an aged Cheddar sauce and crawfish, topped with toasted breadcrumbs The savory fried chicken is served with homemade apple butter, dusted with powdered sugar, and a side of maple syrup of course. At this point you’ll likely need a cup of La Colombe Coffee to keep you away from the food coma. Twisted Tail also offers Espresso, Cappuccinos, Lattes, and Macchiatos.

L. Weller 12 Year. Guests will be treated to hors d’oeuvres in addition to the whiskey tasting. Pour size is 1 oz. for each bourbon.
