Twisted Tail Brunch

Whether its live music, bourbon and whiskey, or simply good food. The Twisted Tail in Headhouse Square has always been one of our favorite places in Philadelphia. Now offering dinner and brunch on the weekend, we recently stopped by to enjoy some outdoor dining and live music on a Saturday afternoon. They’re also offering indoor seating pls they have heat lamps if you want to enjoy the night outside. You’re sure to enjoy the style of the menu with a variety of small plates and seasonal items. Restaurateur George Reilly offers guests contemporary cuisine with a hint of Southern flair.

If you’re not ready for dining out, The Twisted Tail is also offering takeout and delivery via DoorDash, Caviar, delivery.com & UberEats. Feel free to give them a call to place an order directly (215)558-2471. If you didn’t already know, The Twisted Tail features over 120 different whiskies on the menu in addition to craft cocktails and beer. We recommend starting with a Bourbon Basil Lemonade, made with Jack Daniels, fresh basil, and homemade southern lemonade.

We always want sweet and savory when we’re enjoying brunch. So we sampled the Traditional Corn Bread with rosemary and honey butter as well as the Eggs in Purgatory which is poached eggs served in a warm skillet filled with tomato sauce, basil, and garlic. Other menu items which are simple, but executed beautifully include the Avocado Toast with sea salt and sliced radish or the Egg Toast soft-scrambled with chives and Parmesan cheese. The crusty bread for their toasts are always fresh and cut thick enough for holding all the goodness on top.

When sampling from a menu that offers a variety of smaller plates and larger entrees, you’re able to mix and match to really create a custom meal. Of course we all have friends with a larger appetite so we’d recommend the Smoked Turkey Club with rosemary mayo and avocado or The Twisted Burger topped with perfectly crisped bacon, chunks of blue cheese and bourbon BBQ sauce. Opt for the sweet potato fries and thank us later.

Last but not least The Twisted Tail has seasonal specialties on the menu like the Lioni Burrata which is now being served with roasted Kombucha Squash and pumpkin seeds. We tried the Blueberry Pancakes, but the restaurant will soon be offering a variety with roasted apples. When you’re craving pure Southern comfort food, don’t miss the Chicken & Waffle or Crawfish Mac N’ Cheese. Both these signature menu items have been offered at Twisted Tail since they first opened and it is not hard to see why they’ve never left the menu. Your cast iron skillet of mac is filled with creamy cavatappi pasta (little corkscrews) bathing in an aged Cheddar sauce and crawfish, topped with toasted breadcrumbs. The savory fried chicken is served with homemade apple butter, dusted with powdered sugar, and a side of maple syrup of course. At this point you’ll likely need a cup of La Colombe Coffee to keep you away from the food coma. Twisted Tail also offers Espresso, Cappuccinos, Lattes, and Macchiatos.
