In 2014, Broad Street Ministry (BSM) and Federal Donuts partnered with more than 1,500 supporters to crowdfund a restaurant that would convert unused food into meals and services for people who need it most. Every week, Federal Donuts turns 500 pounds of spare chicken parts into the broth that becomes the backbone of Rooster Soup Company. With your simple and generous act of eating a meal here, you are helping to provide hospitality to those who are often least likely to receive it.
Through its Hospitality Collaborative, BSM served more than 76,000 meals in 2016. But it is NOT a soup kitchen. Guests are seated by a host and eat a three course meal served by a volunteer waitstaff and prepared by a professional chef and kitchen crew. It’s the same hospitality we aim for here.
And that’s not all. BSM is the mailing address for more than 3,000 people, enabling them to be eligible to get an ID, housing, employment and benefits. There is a clothing closet, personal care packages, medical care, legal services, benefits and housing assistance. The list goes on and on.  But all of these services cost money. And that’s where you come in. 100% of the profits of this restaurant support the Hospitality Collaborative’s mission of providing meals and social services for Philadelphia’s most vulnerable citizens. So from everyone at Broad Street Ministry, Federal Donuts and Rooster Soup Company, thank you!
