We took a break from making dinner to head over to King of Prussia to check out J. Alexander ’s, the new contemporary American restaurant known for its wood-fired cuisine. Approximately a 15 mile drive from Philadelphia, the dining scene in KOP has been booming over the last year or so both at the King of Prussia Mall and King of Prussia Town Center across the highway. J. Alexander’s is not connected to the mall, but located in the attached parking lot. Busy shoppers and mall-goers looking for a break during the busy shopping season will want to check out the restaurant which also allows for business functions and holiday events with seating for approximately 220 guests.
Local Steve Borriello, a graduate of Penn State University, has been named General Manager and using his six plus years of experience to lead the team. J. Alexander’s. J. Alexanders is committed to providing a quality experience to guests through offering generous portions of flavorful contemporary American cuisine using fresh ingredients. J. Alexander’s Holdings, Inc. is based in Nashville, TN and currently operating 44 restaurant locations for their three complementary upscale dining restaurant concepts: J. Alexander’s, Redlands Grill and Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill across 15 states.
The all-day menu at J.Alexander’s features a wide selection of American classics including hand-cut steaks, prime rib of beef, fresh seafood and sushi, along with a large assortment of entree-sized salads, sandwiches, homemade desserts, and stellar cocktails. The restaurant has a full-service bar that includes an outstanding selection of wines both by the glass and bottle.

Ring in the holiday season with J. Alexander’s Customer Appreciation Happy Hour Monday-Friday from 4 – 7 pm with specials include $4 draft beers, $6 select wines, $8 martinis, and $8 small plates, including Spinach Con Queso, Crispy Chicken Fingers, Smoked Salmon Dip, NY Strip Steak Tacos, Rotisserie Chicken Tacos, and Steak Burger. If you’re a bourbon drink we’d also recommend The Doppelgänger, made with Angel’s Envy Bourbon, Disaronno, Luxardo Cherry and Fever Tree Ginger Ale.
Additionally, Tuesday and Wednesdays throughout the season, J.Alexander’s is offering 20 Bottles of Wine for $20 including Frog’s Leap Zinfandel, The Velvet Devil Merlot, Honig Sauvignon Blanc, and more. We started off the night with a nice glass of wine and the Fire-Grilled Artichokes with rémoulade. This light appetizer is a unique option we don’t see at many restaurants and perfectly highlights J. Alexander’s wood-fired grill. We’re told the Deviled Eggs topped with sugar-cured bacon and homemade pickle relish and Fried Calamari are also very popular.
We also decided to check out the sushi selection including your typical favorite rolls and some different specialty roll options. The Spicy Hawaiian Roll had ahi tuna, mango, avocado, cucumber, and crushed macademia nuts inside! Mike’s Filet Roll is definitely something you’ve never seen before. Inside is kani crabstick, cream cheese and cucumber, then its topped with a seared piece of filet mignon steak. The Avocado Bomb was our favorite. Half of an avocado is filled with seaweed salad, spicy tuna , and roe.
There are lots of options when it comes to the main course. J.Alexander’s serves an all-day menu so you can be as relaxed or upscale as you’d like with your meal choice. Restaurant staples include Carolina Crab Cakes with jumbo lump crab meat, chili mayonnaise and Fallot mustard sauces with french fries and cole slaw. They’re also well known for their Slow Roasted Prime Rib served au jus with pommes purée and heirloom cauliflower.
Add Alex’s Salad with bacon, cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers and rustic croutons to any entrée for only $5. We tried the Filet Mignon with Loaded Baked Potato (yup it’s loaded with butter, bacon, cheddar cheese, and sour cream. At J.Alexander’s every steak is finished with Maître d’ butter and all steaks and prime rib are Certified Angus Beef.
We couldn’t resist trying the Barbecue Baby Back Grilled Ribs with Plum Creek bbq sauce, french fries and Southern cole slaw. And because we’re a sucker for comfort food we had to check out the Not Your Ordinary Mac & Cheese (made with 4 different types of cheese!) Health-conscious diners will enjoy the fresh cold water Grilled Norwegian Salmon with orzo and wild rice and roasted peppers. Lunch cut available until 4:00 pm and you can also add a side of Sautéed Baby Bok Choy with Garlic Oil.
So the next time you’d heading out to the King of Prussia Mall to finish up your holiday shopping, don’t settle for Shake Shack. J.Alexander’s has got burgers and so much more. Reservations are available via OpenTable.
