We stopped by one of South Jersey’s most acclaimed steak and seafood houses for over 15 years, The ChopHouse in Gibbsboro, NJ. This romantic lakeside restaurant features a large dining room filled with roomy leather banquettes and walls of river stones and burnished wood. Outside the view along Silver Lake is breathtaking with its own outdoor bar, seating and deck complete with fire pits. Its easy to see why The ChopHouse is a very popular destination for weddings and special events being able to accommodate up to 200 guests!
This summer is the 5th year that the restaurant is offering its special Seafood Fest menu every Sunday through Labor Day. Including a variety dishes like a Fresh Maine Lobster Roll with tender poached lobster, lemon chive aioli, and fries or classic Seafood Bake with broiled lobster, roasted clams, mussels, chorizo, sweet corn, and baby potatoes in a saffron broth. Gluten-free diners will devour the Poached Lobster Cobb Salad with roasted corn, applewood smoked bacon, radishes, English cucumbers, tomato, avocado, and truffle aioli.
Start your meal with an expertly crafted cocktail- from dirty martinis with gin and vodka to apple martinis, cosmopolitans and the signature martini with sweet pineapple-infused vodka, The ChopHouse is sure to quench thirst. Best of all, during daily happy hour from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, all martinis are only $8! And a variety of small plates are also on special during happy hour like Piri Piri Shrimp, The ChopHouse Tacos, Kona Filet Tips, Cajun Blackened Shrimp, Bowl of Sweet Tater Tots, Cheesesteak Spring Rolls, and more!
We started our meal with the Crispy Buffalo Shrimp and Lobster & Colossal Lump Crab Mac & Cheese (which is also offered on Sunday’s Seafood Fest menu.) Other starters we’d recommend include the Tuna Tartare or anything from the Raw Bar section of the menu. The Grand Shellfish Platter offers 4 Oysters, 4 Littleneck Clams, 4 Shrimp, Colossal Lump Crab, and a Lobster Tail. The ChopHouse also allows you to customize and Build-Your-Own Cold Shellfish Platter with Oysters on the Half Shell, Shrimp Cocktail, and Jumbo Lump Crab Cocktail. You can even add a 4 oz. Butterflied Lobster Tail if you’re feeling decadent!
The ChopHouse is most famous for their Dry-Aged In House steaks. Most notably the Kona Crusted New York Strip Steak. This steak is seasoned with a unique house blend with Hawaiian decaf coffee, brown sugar, chocolate, shallots which are finely ground up for a smokey flavor with a sweet finish. The restaurant offers a variety of quality steaks in addition to seafood on the menu. After careful inspection, each dry-aged steak is tagged and for at least 28 days in a temperature-controlled locker. This unique process creates a rich depth of flavor and an unforgettable steak!
Our recommendation if you’re joining The ChopHouse for Sunday’s Seafood Fest is the 1.5 lb Whole Lobster which is offered steamed or broiled with an additional choice of having the lobster baked with Lump Crab Stuffing! Most dishes are served a la carte so you’ll have you pick from lots of different side dishes including Lyonnaise Potatoes, Mashed Red Bliss Potatoes, Baked Idaho Russet Potato, White Truffle Parmesan Fries, Sweet Potato Steak Fries with House-Made Ranch, Pan-Roasted Wild Mushrooms with Sherry, Thyme, Grilled Asparagus with Hollandaise, Sautéed Broccoli with Roasted Garlic & Parmesan, Creamed or Garlic Spinach, French Green Beans with Crispy Shallots, or Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Crispy Pancetta!
