Stock

Let me set the scene for you. It’s a cold winter day. You are bundled up with your scarf, hat, mittens, and fuzzy socks, and are craving something to kick that cold you’re feeling starting to creep in. I know just what you want. Pho. Its magical curing powers are exactly what you are craving to warm you right up. Let me introduce you to Stock.

First things first, the restaurant itself is teeny tiny- there’s a bar with about 7/8 seats, three 2-top tables, and a 4-top up front (which can be made into two 2-tops). We got there just in time at 6:00 on a Sunday night, because people started to flood in and had to wait for a seat. I don’t mind cozy restaurants, I just felt that this one was a bit tight, and may not be the best for someone who gets claustrophobic- so something to keep in mind.

The food was absolutely delicious- we got the Prahok Katee- cambodian pork dip served with green cabbage, and then we got the Khao Poon Pho special- green and red curries, coconut milk, galangal, thai chili, shredded cabbage, long beans, kaffir lime, rice noodles, peanuts, mint, cilantro, basil, with chicken added.

The Prahok Katee was definitely the winner of the two dishes- I really enjoyed how the “chips” for the dip were cabbage pieces- it made it so I didn’t get insanely full from eating the appetizer (which, let’s face it, usually happens). There was a tiny hint of spice in the dish, which made it that much more delicious.

The Khao Poon was their special Pho being served up. It was MASSIVE. I barely made a dent in the bowl (Luckily, however, the Pho made great leftovers for work the next day). You could really taste the coconut milk and the curries, and it wasn’t spicy at all, which was nice.

As for their other menu items, Stock always has their Mushroom Pho and Chicken Pho ready to be served. The Mushroom Pho is completely vegan, and served with tofu (no exceptions!)

The wait staff was incredibly nice, as was the chef, who was working hard behind the counter. My only complaint was that since they were so busy, we felt a little neglected towards the end of our meal, when we were waiting for both the check and the take out container.

My ONLY other complaint (and it’s not really a complaint) is that they don’t have diet coke- just regular coke.  It was also a little bit expensive for an appetizer and two soups ($51!!)

👍👍👍👍
