If you’re looking for a quintessential neighborhood bar around the Art Museum or Eastern State Penitentiary, look no further than Fairmount & Co. at 24th and Brown Street. Owners Ayo Patterson , Jeff Kurz , and Kyle Reed teamed up to convert the Brown Street Pub last year into a bar with a rotating tap list from all over the USA while chefs Greg Boris and Victor Ruiz are back in the kitchen cooking and serving from scratch, locally sourced dishes.
Fairmount & Co. is a beer drinkers haven with 17 beers on draft plus a nice selection of bottles and cans. Some of the most popular this spring including Bells Two Hearted and Sole Super Silk. Of course, Victory Summer Love is a favorite as well.
Comfort food is abundant as we all know that it pairs best with a nice cold beer. Customers can enjoy traditional Chicken Wings, honey BBQ, or the May Wing of the month: Sesame Soy with a Wasabi Ginger Dipping sauce. They also have some Mac & Cheese made with cavatappi pasta, manchego, asiago, pecorino romano, and baked for a crispy outside coated in bread crumbs.
The Pork Belly Sliders are also a big seller. The crispy, smoked pork belly is made in house and served on buns with fried pickles, IPA mustard, and chipotle mayo. Served with a side of Hand cut French Fries and its more of an entree than appetizer. Their Cuban sandwich is also a hit made with confit pork shoulder, smoked pork belly, ham, swiss, dijionaise, and house-made pickles on onion ciabatini.
We couldn’t resist checking out the Chicken & Waffles after being told about the fried chicken being made in house with chicken thighs and served on top of a cornbread waffles with Sriracha maple syrup. This dish is most certainly a MUST. We were also pleasantly surprised to find out that Fairmount & Co. is also serving up a respectable Veggie Burger. The key to this burgers success is the homemade black bean and mushroom patty, served with chipotle mayo on a multigrain bun. We encourage both vegetarians and carnivores alike to check out this burger.
And don’t you skip dessert! You will want to save room for their Fried Oreos with ice cream. They’re battered and deep fried Oreos drizzled in chocolate syrup with a powdered sugar sprinkle- all served over ice cream. This warm gooey chocolaty dessert is too good. If you’re more into liquid dining, Fairmount & Co. also offers Bud Light and Yuengling pitchers, as a local hang out for many intramural sports teams.
