Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop has a limited-time sandwich only available until August 31st! They are offering the Chicken Chipotle Crunch Sub, featuring premium chicken, grilled hot with melted American cheese and topped with chipotle ranch dressing, lettuce, crispy cheddar onions, and tomatoes. This special sandwich can be ordered in any size, and also as part of their ‘Capture 2’ deal.
Lois Margolet and her brother, Alan, started Capriotti’s in 1976. They lived in Little Italy in Wilmington, Delaware, where sandwich shops were abundant, but Lois had a dream of creating something unique. The shop began as a boarded up building beneath their apartment. They decided to name it after their grandfather, Philip Capriotti, who loved to cook.
They wanted to create a sandwich for “real turkey lovers,” so they started roasting whole fresh turkeys overnight. This concept set them apart from their competition and still does. People loved their sandwiches, and word spread about their fresh roasted turkey, quality meats and cheese, fresh rolls and produce. Over time, their popularity grew and in 1987, their cousin, Diane Rizzo, joined them in opening additional locations in Delaware. Signature sandwiches, such as the “Bobbie®” and others, were introduced. The formula was so successful that franchising was offered.
By 2008, Capriotti’s had 44 restaurant locations and in 2009 the chain was the official sandwich sponsor of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. In November 2009, the “Bobbie®”, one of Capriotti’s signature sandwiches was voted “The Greatest Sandwich in America” by AOL.com. The sandwich is made with pulled turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayonnaise. From 2010-2014, Capriotti’s was ranked in Entrepreneur magazine’s Top 500 Franchise List. In 2012, USA Today named Capriotti’s one of the “10 Great Places for a Surprising Sandwich.”
Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop has also starred on Food Network’s Unwrapped in December 2011. In November 2013, Capriotti’s expanded its presence on the East Coast by opening its first location in Washington DC where Joe Biden was the first customer served at the store’s grand opening. That year, Capriotti’s brought in over $58 million in revenue and experienced a 48% growth over the previous three years. In 2014, the company was named one of the “Top 10 Best Food Franchises for Your Buck” and one of “America’s Best Franchises” by Forbes magazine. Today, Capriotti’s Sandwich Shops are located around the country, continuing the tradition started in Delaware over 30 years ago.
