Labor Day has come and gone, and the first day of Fall is fast approaching. Fishtown Hops is changing with the seasons. Located on the river-walk behind SugarHouse Casino, the waterfront beer garden is officially welcoming guests with Fall Fest kicking off Thursday, September 7 (just in time for football season!) Fire pits and hay bales will be dressing up Fishtown Hops as guests cozy up with S’mores Dip made from peanut butter cups, chocolate, and marshmallow and sipping craft beers while taking in the views of the Delaware River and Ben Franklin Bridge.
In addition Apple Cider Sangria, Bavarian Pretzels, plus 65” and 80” televisions will turn the beer garden into the ultimate fall hangout for the launch of the NFL’s 2017-2018 season. Groundswell (the masterminds behind Spruce Street Harbor Park) created Fishtown Hops this summer. The beer garden holds approximately 150 guests.
On Thursday, guests can enjoy food and drink specials, while watching the New England Patriots host the Kansas City Chiefs in the league’s opener. During the kickoff event from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, guests can sip on $4 Jefferson Whiskey cocktails and 1800 Tequila. Happy hour also includes half-priced pitchers of beer and buy one, get one half price appetizers.
We stopped by to enjoy the views and were wowed by the Cheese & Charcuterie Board served on a wooden pizza peel loaded with layers of soppressata, salami, pepperoni, prosciutto, fontina cheese, smoked mozzarella cheeses, fig jam, whole grain Hennessy mustard, grapes and sliced assorted breads. Of course, you know we had to try the Layered Cheesesteak Nachos with cheese whiz smothered over sliced ribeye and sautéed onions, topped with pico de gallo. These were definitely a more interesting addition to the menu versus your typical nachos. For the chilly evenings ahead, we’d gladly dive into some Pulled Pork Fries with barbecue pulled pork, cheddar cheese and scallions over hand cut fries. Our other top pick, however, is the Mac N’ Cheese Crab Bites which are fried mac n cheese balls filled with jumbo lump crabmeat, dusted with Old Bay® seasoning served with a side of Cajun remoulade for dipping.
After the NFL season opener, college and pro football fans will love watching their favorite teams on the big outdoor screens, while enjoying an ale or lager from one of the many Philadelphia-based breweries. Guests can also reserve the beer garden’s private room for the ultimate tailgate party by booking a private event at www.fishtownhops.com.
On Sundays for football, guests can root on their teams and fantasy football players by watching them on dedicated TVs tuned to the NFL RedZone channel. They will also have the audio of any game streamed live to their phones by using the Tunity app. Fishtown Hops is also offering one complimentary ice-cold Schlitz to anyone that wears a team jersey and checks-in or posts their location on social media from the beer garden, while supplies last!
Live music and DJs along with a revolving food truck schedule, will be programmed during the Fall, offering guests fast and easy service in between games of corn hole and shuffle board. Fishtown Hops will continue its Fall Fest celebration through Wednesday, November 22 (the day before Thanksgiving) when it will close for the winter.
