Pantryboy Food Delivery Service Review

By now I’m sure a lot of you are familiar with the food delivery services such as Home Chef, Hello Fresh, Plated, and Blue Apron. In fact, we here at Philmytummy have tried many of the different services, and you can read all about our thoughts here. Last week, we received our first box from Pantryboy– a Pennsylvania based company serving up some of the freshest ingredients I have ever received.

Located in Ardmore, PA, this food-delivery service is creating recipes from around the world with farm-fresh ingredients perfectly proportioned to your needs. All their ingredients are local, organic, natural, with 100% antibiotic-free meats having no added hormones, no GMO ingredients.

Pricing:               2 people               4 people
Carnivores           $71.94                 $143.88
Crock-Pot            $53.94                  $107.88
Omnivores           $59.95                 $119.88
Vegetarians         $53.94                 $107.88

Delivery is free if you live within a 50-mile radius.

The way that it works is you select which type of box you’d want (carnivore, crock-pot, omnivore, or vegetarian), and then you get meals for that selection. For example, if you select crock-pot, you would receive 3 meals for 2 or 4 people, consisting of meat, seafood, and vegetarian recipes. So far, Pantryboy is the only company I’ve seen that offers a crock-pot option, which is great for those of you who don’t have time to cook, but would still love a great home-made meal at the end of the day.

We were lucky enough to receive a sample box from Pantryboy Founder and CEO, Budo Bunul. Our box came with three meals, portioned out for four people. We received: Indian Curry Chicken & Basmati Rice with warm Naan, Ground Beef Shakshuka & Warm Couscous, and Butter Dill Salmon & Bulgar Pilaf with Tomato Cabbage Salad.

The very first thing we noticed open opening the box was how fresh the food was. Other companies send you frozen meats, but this meat was clearly packaged specifically for us, with fresh, unfrozen meat.

Not to mention, the produce was HUGE! Check out these carrots:

And look how fresh the fish was! It was clearly packaged just for us, without being frozen before shipping.

The first meal we made was the Butter Dill Salmon & Bulgar Pilaf with Tomato Cabbage Salad. The recipe was incredibly simple- first, the fish came already seasoned with the butter and dill. All the other ingredients were portioned perfectly. (We were missing an ingredient from our box, but it wasn’t a big deal- instead of using tomato paste in the Bulgar Pilaf, we used ketchup- easy solve). Plus, you could really see how fresh the tomatoes were- there have been times from other companies where the tomatoes were soggy and mushed- these were still firm and juicy.

The meal was ready in under 30 minutes, and tasted absolutely delicious. The salad added that extra bit of healthiness that I wanted, the fish had amazing flavor, and the Bulgar pilaf was great, despite having to use ketchup instead of tomato paste.

Sorry, I had a nibble before taking the photo 🙂

The  Indian Curry Chicken & Basmati Rice with warm Naan was also just as delicious. We used that big carrot for this dish, and it hands down may have been one of the sweetest carrots I’ve ever tasted. Who knew carrots could be sweet? The meal was fresh, healthy, and delicious- everything I look for in a good home cooked meal.

There is no doubt in my mind that we will be ordering from Pantryboy again. I absolutely love the fact that it’s a local company, so we know where we are getting the products from, and we know that they’re fresh. The recipes were incredibly unique, compared to the other companies we’ve used, and tasted absolutely delicious.
