Humpty’s Dumplings

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.. and that is when three friends: Jason Craig, Pat Doyle, and Phillip Yesenoski decided to cook up some serious Asian fusion and name it after this classic nursery rhyme. Starting at farmer’s markets, food truck festivals, and a brick and mortar location in Glenside, PA; Humpty’s Dumplings quickly found success and now is taking the city by storm with their latest brick and mortar location open in Queens Village, Philadelphia.

The both restaurant locations are smaller, ideal for takeout- but provide some table seating for dine in BYOB customers. Customers can find homemade bottles of dipping sauce on each table and local art on the walls. The Philadelphia store is currently showcasing artwork by Shane Davis of 2202 Alter Street in South Philly. Homemade sauces include Mild Buffalo Sauce, Spicy Buffalo, Honey BBQ, and the crowd favorite is Back Burner BBQ. In January 2014, the storefront in their hometown of Glenside, PA opened and in June 2017 they team proudly opened their second location in the city.

Like all great culinary discoveries, Pat and Jason stumbled upon their dumpling creations by accident. It began one night when they were shooting some pool and having a few beers. They decided to wrap some chicken leftovers in wonton wrappers and fry it. And so the Humpty Dumpling was born! These delicious little morsels would make their way into our hearts and stomachs with classic comfort food fillings like cheesesteak and buffalo chicken. Jason describes them as “everyone’s favorite foods in bite-sized deep fried pouches.” By special request these dumplings can also be steamed, but frying is recommended.

Sweet or savory these dumplings are bursting with filling. Being deep fried gives them a perfect thin, crispy shell! The classic sample flavors always on the menu include Cheesesteak, Buffalo Chicken, Asian Pork, Honey Chipotle Chicken, and Spinach Mozzarella and Ricotta. Special flavors are featured monthly- this month they’ve got Edamame, Gobbling (Thanksgiving Dumpling), Nutella Banana Bread, and Peach Cobbler. Everything is made from scratch by hand, even the sauces. They serve homemade sauces for dipping, or you can buy by the bottle to take them home with you for $5.99!

We could probably eat our weight in dumplings before admitting we’re fully, but believe us- you’ll be challenged to finish a noodle bowl from Humpty Dumplings! Made with a stir fried lo mein noodle these dishes are just as unique as the dumpling fillings. Favorites include the Chicken Pot Pie Noodles, Roast Pork Noodles, Cheesesteak Noodles, and yes even Buffalo Chicken Noodles.  This month’s special is Sausage, Pepper, and Onion Noodles. These noodles are the perfect texture for their light and creamy sauce. Next time the temperature drops make sure to try the comforting flavors of the Chicken Pot Pie Noodles- you can thank us later- huge chunks of seasoned chicken breast, corns, peas, and carrot medley finished with flakes of pot pie crust and shredded carrot.

And for anyone else whose mouth isn’t watering at these indulgent dishes- they’re offering a Seasonal Salad with Asian Pear & Walnut with carrots, pear vinaigrette, and mixed greens. Because we all know summer bodies are made in winter- or however that goes -_- Don’t feel like making your way over to Queens Village? Of course you can get Humpty’s Dumplings delivered right to you with Grubhub and Caviar delivery.
