Rex 1516

Rex 1516 is one of my favorite South Street discoveries since moving to Philadelphia. The cozy, plush, dark atmosphere of a London pub coupled with the warm comfort of Southern cuisine makes Rex irresistible. This spot is a great choice for a date night or celebration for parties of no more than 8. Open for dinner and weekend brunch, I am always sure to enjoy my meal here. Definitely make reservations because this spot fills up fast!

I first stumbled upon Rex’s executive chef Justin Swain when he won the Philly Mag Battle of the Burger in 2014. You can bet that I was at the Piazza to cast my vote along with the majority of others to help lead the Rex burger to victory- luckily this burger is offered on both the brunch and dinner menu. The Rex burger is topped with pimento cheese, bacon, crispy onion strings, and bibb lettuce. Add a fried egg on top or try the sweet potatoes on the side! Check out the Instagram of Chef Justin Swain every Tuesday for the featured burger special with a shot and a beer for $15!

For brunch the Bananas Foster French Toast is divine! Otherwise the Huevos Rancheros, Shrimp & Grits, Flapjacks, BBQ Sandwich, or Chicken & Waffles! For dinner my other favorites include Mushroom Bucatini, Fried Chicken, or the BBQ Platter. For dessert don’t miss the Milk & Cookies!
